Jackson's art supplies - review and first impressions

Last year I set myself a goal to draw more. I used to have so much fun sketching and painting with watercolors but art school kind of ruined it for me. Now, I feel ready to try my hand at it again. I didn't have a sketchbook or enough drawing materials so I’ve decided to treat myself a little. We all know how addictive shopping for art supplies can be, haha. I’ve ordered some stuff from Jackson's art supplies mostly because of their gorgeous website and convenient delivery times. I hope this will be helpful if you’re considering this website for your next art supplies haul!

Selection

As I mentioned earlier, this time I was on a quest to get some drawing supplies and a new sketchbook. In my opinion, the range of paints, pencils, brushes, and paper is very impressive! Sadly they primarily focus on catering for visual artists so you won’t be able to find much for sculpting or ceramics. If you’re a doll maker like me and follow my blog solely for dolls, check out this guide for great quality doll-making materials and where to find them!

Prices

Because they have a great selection of supplies, the prices can vary as well. As with everything in life, if you’re purchasing watercolours that are from a well-recognized brand and known to be better quality, they will be pricier than others. Because I still don’t feel very confident in my drawing skills, I’ve selected less known, cheaper products and their own branded “Jackson’s” stuff. I’m very happy to say that I spend just €22.88 plus €4.45 for shipping and got 8 items!

Shipping

Jackson's are UK-based art suppliers so it’ll be pretty fast if you reside in Europe. It took about 5 days to get my order. I’d say it’s pretty common to wait 5-7 days if you’re ordering from other European countries and it can be faster only if you’re shopping locally. Because they’re well-established brand, they offer very good international delivery times as well. On their website, they claim that shipping to the United States is 4 to 9 days or 1 to 3 days if you splurge on DHL delivery.

First impressions

The minute I got my order I was very excited to try out everything! On a sunny afternoon, I’ve put on some relaxing music and made a quick sketch in watercolours. I absolutely loved the sketchbook! It was on a cheaper side and I didn’t expect the paper will be such good quality. I use quite a lot of layers and water with my watercolour sketches. Nonetheless, the paper didn’t absorb a lot of pigment and didn’t shed any pulp particles. The least favourite thing I’ve purchased was the masking fluid. Even though it did work properly, the smell was very unpleasant. I’ll finish it up but I’ll try different ones in the future.

Overall I’m very pleased with everything! Maybe this will be a strong step to get me into painting again. One just can only hope. Let me know in the comments what would you get!
